PRIMITIVE SISTER COLUMN

“Within all women, there is commonality within your differences and that is where the magic bursts through”

I wanted to kick off my column with a message about connection. Even though many topics will be covered in this space, I want to lay the foundation with an invitation to meditate on the way we connect in the world as women.

So many components make up a whole-y lived life. Seeing the opportunity to draw on the wisdom of one another is a way to not only survive this trip around the sun, but, thrive in it. Our western culture has developed in a way that has sort of “divided and conquered” the power of women; and as a result, I believe we have lost the primitive call to connect with one another.

As our planet evolves, as we shift through healing, through joy, through life, motherhood, empowerment, and everything else, I see our life paths best walked with a steady empowerment happening between women.

Along with a tribe of empowered intelligent women working toward re-asserting their space, there are skills and earth wisdom ready to be welcomed back into our modern lives as well. As each of us journey deeper in various areas of our lives, we gain something for ourselves, and also something to share within the community. That “something” might be a recipe for a wholesome meal, a great yoga class, a job opportunity, or a tip about an amazing ceramics class near where you dwell. The ripple effect created by a community of women committed to supporting, guiding, and nurturing each other is far more powerful than that of a culture dominated by objectification and competition. This creates space for a primitive sisterhood ripe and ready to unfold in a modern world.

“I think we are ready to take on the task of looking deeply into the power of other women and truly being blown away by what we see”

In recent years I have found that women are ready to shed the confining stigma that tells us we aren’t supposed to empower each other. I think we are ready to take on the task of looking deeply into the power of other women and truly being blown away by what we see.

How can we transform “the other” into ourselves? How can we look into the eyes of our sisters, our mothers, our closest friends and see ourselves. What does true compassion look like? Will it melt away your resistance, your loneliness, and your fear? Yeah, probably.

Within all women, there is commonality within your differences and that is where the magic bursts through! That is where love grows and that is where higher consciousness springs from. You can start this transformation with the intention to be mindful of your thoughts and beliefs about other women. Watch your thoughts, watch who you exclude and why (is it age, ethnicity, socio-economic status, etc.) and just really be present with that. If you feel judgment, allow it, but then reflect on it. To take ownership of your life and truly evolve, you must always keep a level of openness.

There is much to be learned from your sisters, and as my intention with this column is not to be exclusively about sisterhood; the foundation of everything I do and believe in, very much is. I want to weave this space with realness, with skill sharing, with questions, and with power. Within my humble insights I hope you find your reflection in my words. Let this powerful sisterhood commence!
